Taking Care of Our Daughters

Is this the kind of combing, brushing, and picking we are supposed to do to our daughters hair? What is wrong with this woman? Obviously she doesn't know the correct way to comb and brush her daughters' curly hair. How about some sections, and gently combing and brushing? Why is she pulling on her daughters' hair, sitting on top of her? Why was she cursing this baby, and telling her she didn't have a daddy? Lawd I have soo many questions, and I need someone to contact this silly woman in this video and educate her on how to properly care for curly hair.

This video is infuriating, I feel for this little Princess, and look forward to her joining the Queendom one day in the future. Because, that will leave an impression on her when she gets older, Jesus wept. And, don't even get me started on the title of the video.

Stay Blessed & Happy Locing!

Hey... A blogger friend of mines sent me a link to this video this past weekend. I have a blog scheduled to post tomorrow about this issue. I think it's horrible. It is straight abusive that this woman did not stop what she was doing knowing that this child was in pain. Thank you for helping to spread the word about this. In my post I mention that a site called The Roots did a story on this and said that authorities in her area was notified. So I am hoping that something was done about this. - Karen

I can't even watch the video again. Just to haunting to hear the child cry out to make the pain stop. Just crazy...

Karen, it baffled me how some people think that this is not abuse. I mean what else is abuse if this isn't a version of it? Pathetic. I am overjoyed that someone contacted the authorities, because it wasn't cute, and she needs some major knowledge when it comes to hair! I can't wait to read your post on it!

This video disturbed me so much that I couldn't watch the end of it. It was bad enough that she was being extremely rough but then you curse out a child. My daughter is 3 and has extremely curly hair that tangles and attract lint easily. She hates to get her hair combed. She always says " Brush softly". But I'm not going to straddle her and curse her out! To anyone that does not believe this is abuse, clearly does not understand the meaning. Abuse can be verbal, and hurts as much as physical abuse.

Seriously though? why was this posted on Youtube did she not know that this might be considered abuse? definitely not for my entertainment or many others for that matter. This is seriously the reason many black girls grow up thinking they are less then nothing, then try to change themselves because mama can't deal with her own blackness. Black women need to learn to embrace themselves so they can better help their daughters learn to embrace themselves. Mind you I remember back in the day the ripping and tugging I endured (I know better now) This little girl has now been traumatized most definitely.

I feel compassion for the woman and the child. The woman has just learned this behavior from her mother- self-hatred starts before primary school perhaps as a baby. Has anyone reached out to the mother or poster on youtube with suggestions/alternatives? She needs a remedy not more punishment.

Ok she couldn't have been this lil girls mother! Ain't no way!! AND what type of hair brushing was she doing it almost looked like she was hitting her in the head with the brush! It looks like she was making the situation worse. It just doesn't look like any hair combing ritual I've participated in be it as a mother or a lil girl!
This is sad & to think they thought it was funny is ridiculous.
I'm glad youtube pulled the video.
