Alopecia Revisited

The hair condition Alopecia is no stranger to us around here, we have discussed this over the course of two years. We discussed it with readers emails here.  Above in the picture supermodel Naomi Campbell was snapped by paparazzi while in attendance at a New York's fashion show. Alopecia as it is seen here is most likely in response to years of wearing lace front wigs, weaves, and wigs.

Remember natural ladies can get alopecia as well with too much stress on the hairline, pulling too tightly with braids and twisting too tightly.

Of course there are medical reasons for hair loss, such as disease, stress, medication, etc. Please go here for more information on the different definitions of alopecia treatments, and symptoms.

LA!

Saturday my girls and I traveled to LA, California so that I could participate in the Leimart Park Book Festival. It was only a 4 hour drive, and so Saturday morning I trekked on down to the park and set up my small table. I was eager to meet old and new fans alike. However, I wasn't expecting to meet one of my Queens in person! I did, so above you are looking at On the Road to Queendoms' La Shan. She is such a sweet spirit and her aura was very light, so I was immediately drawn to her and wanted to hug her to death, lol!

Thank you La Shan for coming to see me, although I have never met her before I felt as if I'd known her. This is because she chats me up often on Twitter, lol. I love to meet you Queens in person. Also, I told her on sight how beautiful her locs looked, very healthy! She was surprised to hear that her hair texture is a 3A, and that she has to be extremely careful with color. Her color is cayute! So enough raving about Queen La Shan, with her pretty self lol! Thanks again girl for the support and I hope you enjoy the book!

Locs, locs, everywhere!

LA was full of natural beauty! I almost broke my neck looking at all of the natural hair! I couldn't take pics like I wanted to because I was glued to my table. But the little I could I snapped pictures of some of the patrons. There was sisterlocs, traditional locs, free forms, bald heads, afros, etc. Honey all that fabulous natural hair gave me life! So my hat is off to LA who'd thunk it? I am very impressed!

Ms Thang...Ms. Khia!

Say what you want about Khia (but I will always love My Neck My Back, lol), but she is a loc'd diva and had been for quite a while! Plus she has been putting in her PR/Mktg lately. Honey I don't know who is on her team but they are doing the damn thang. She all over the place. She got some new music out, and get this she is giving out sex advice. Umm, okay whateva is clever to stay relevant! LOL  Check it out here, the sex advice is...too explicit to put up on this here blog. I have sweet babies that check us out here at On the Road to Queendom. However, if you want her to put you up on game click the link, lol.

Ohh La La Lauryn Hill Coming Back...

I don't know how many of you are waiting with Lauryn to get over what ever the hell she was going through to make a comeback on the music scene. Instead of her coming back with full force we were forced to see her looking like this, and sounding like that. Well it seems we are getting closer to the mark. She is a bit lukwarm, not hot but she is on her way. She is heading in the right direction.

Here she is performing in a park in DC recently.

Summer Maintenance

How are you Queen's doing thus far this summer with your loc maintenance? Remember to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Remember our locs are just as thirsty for some moisture just like any other hairstyle. Do you remember the post I did on my loc moisturizer? Well lets revisit shall we?

--------------------------------------

Infusium is an awesome product that I have been using for years. I think I have been using it for at least 9 years or so, even before I went natural. It has always left my hair soft, manageable, and very healthy. So, it was natural that I continued to use it even sans-chemicals.

Infusium 23 Original Formula Pro-Vitamin Treatment is a unique leave-in treatment that adds conditioning and shine, restores manageability to dry, brittle hair and protects against split ends. I would use it immediately after I shampoo my hair. But it is safe to use daily.

It has a thin consistency and although you shouldn't over saturate your hair with it, you do need to use it generously. Also, its safe for us loc'd Queens to use everyday mixed w/ a little of your other herbs and oils. I do....

So my little Queen Bees...head on to Sally's, Walmart, Walgreens, your neighborhood "hood" Beauty Supply Store and grab up a bottle. You will be rocking a more healthy head of locs in no time.

To use as a leave in treatment, mix in vital herbs, and essential oils, such as coconut oil, or olive oil in a spray bottle and spritz your roots, and locs daily (do not over saturate!).

Also, remember Queens to cover in the sun! Unless you are trying to lighten your locs by the sun ( I used to do that), remember the sun is very drying and damaging! Just because we are brown, doesn't mean we can't burn, or get skin cancer! So slather on the sun block, and with a cap also block those harmful rays from your locs!

Summer Style....

This afro beauty is making me miss my afro! I love it!!

I found these pics of lovely natural beauties Kimmie Gipson and Saidah Fishenden, Atlanta dancers who recently toured with Beyonce, to model this season’s best styles of Spanx swimwear.

Do a few extra pounds have you worried about what to wear on the beach this season? Have no fear with the new line of swimwear from Atlanta-based Spanx. Half of the styles — which include one-pieces and bikinis with color blocking, v-necks and a one-shoulder with ruffles — sold out in the first four weeks of the national launch.

The suits offer full coverage bottoms and are as appropriate for young girls as they are for grandmas, she said.
The collection fits in well with the swimwear trends this season, which confirm the return of the one-piece.

There are also prints ranging from bohemian tie-dye to eclectic paisley. And of course, classic black suits never go out of style. When searching for your perfect swimsuit this season, there are only two major tips: Know your body type and know what you like.

*Taken from the AJC

Trust me when I tell you I will be purchasing one of these swimsuits for my lil' frolic on the beach in LA in the coming few weeks. I will take some pictures. If anyone has one of these let us know how it looks and feels.

Jada Speaks Words of Wisdom

Jada Pinkett-Smith covers Essence magazine in the buff. She is giving us some much needed advice on practicing self-love, and acceptance. Her are some excerpts below:

Jada On the statement she wanted to make
“Lay your eyes on the beauty of black women! That’s the statement. The black woman is very spiritual. She is the ultimate mother, the ultimate of everything. We connect to all things. Lay your eyes on that.”
Jada on her flaws
“We, as women, have to love ourselves. Whatever you look like, you better be comfortable with it. … All my life black men have told me how flawed I am. People may look at that picture and not necessarily be able to identify my woes about my own body, but I have them. It’s just that I’ve gotten to the point where I’m like, ‘This is me’ and I embrace that. I’m getting older. I’ve got wrinkles in my face that I didn’t before, but it’s my face!”
Jada on posing nude
“When I walked out there and disrobed, I felt like a queen. I felt like the world was mine. Like there was this power just emanating from my person. Like there was nothing I couldn’t do.”
Jada’s advice on self-love
Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror? Because I bet that if you love it authentically, everybody else around you will. They won’t even have a chance to see anything else, because you will have a shield of confidence around you. That is a powerful gift that God gives us that most of us rarely use.”

Ya'll gone ahead and bask in this Queens glory cuz I know I will!

Crinkle Love

Hey Queens! Here I am on the day of my book signing and release event in Memphis, Tennessee. It was a magical night which started off slow but ended up crowded and fantastic!
I wore my hair in crinkles.

I previously had my hair braided for about a week, then let it down the day of the event. Don't forget to purchase your copy of my book High Stakes from my site, www.toshiashaw.com
