RL from Next Gives Women Advice...

RL from the chart topping group Next has a blog that I happened upon. While on his blog I found an insightful open letter to women, in which he entitled, Beautiful. It was refreshing to read something like this from a man who is in the industry; which perpetuates and promotes anything but being naturally beautiful. Nice to see he took time to address a rampant issue within our community. Read on:

Simply Marvelous Makeup & Skincare!

Queens, you know I am getting on up the ladder. With age comes problems, just too many to name honey so I'll just leave it at that. With that being said, I have had to become a warrior against adult acne (boo hoo), and age spots (Jesus wept). I hate wearing full face makeup; the only thing I like is eye makeup, and a lil lip stuff. So I journeyed on over to Clinique...again. I tried their regular face makeup and broke out something awful. But needless to say, my best girlfriend who suffers from adult acne also told me to give it a try. Its been 2 weeks and no breakouts from the makeup! It wears really light, and I look ca-yute if I must say so myself. Here I am wearing a face full of the stuff. Oh yea, not one peep about my purple dress, I love this dress and will wear it until the seams fall off!

I like it! My color is Fresh Amber 08 (it's the darkest one they have). It looks true on my skin.

Its called Clinique Acne Solution and it has .5% Salicylic Acid so that means it fights blemishes while giving you fantastic coverage. After I put on my foundation I set it with this:

Braidloc Update

Remember when I installed my daughter's braidlocs last fall? Well honey they have grown exponentially! I mean there were obvious parts, and you could see the actual braid pattern. Well its been one year, my how time flies! Here she is now...

The only hint they started as braidlocs can be found at the very tip of the locs. They are very healthy, and she LOVES her hair, trust me honey, she just knows she is cute, lol. Also, I was running late so I didn't get the back, but her locs are growing in layers, with the back being at her shoulders. I am excited for her growth, and how many styles she will be able to have once she enters elementary school!

New Natural Hair Mag....

Ya'll know I keep some shenanigans brewing right? LOL Well my latest venture is with international model Nerissa Irving, she is no stranger around here. The beautiful loc'd diva has created Kamoy Magazine which is about everything organic, and natural for us! She and I both have been discussing the lack of natural haired women in mainstream magazines, so she stopped talking about it and she has created the mag above!

I am so excited to be a part of it, as the magazine's editor. I am all too ready to take on the task! So with that being said...the magazine is online now and will come out in hardcopy January 7th of next year.  As of now, you can head over the beauty's website, http://nerissairving.com/ to take a peek of things to come!

Submission information is here, good luck!

Ask Writing Addict

Hey Writing Addict!

Do you have any recommendations for conditioners for locs? I'm having a difficult time finding a chemical-free/residue-free conditioner for my hair (loc'd for 14 months). I'm very worried about winter (Toronto), although I wear hats & scarves, I've noticed my hair is drier than normal (I've increased my water intake).

I currently use Dr. Bronner's Peppermint shampoo, and Organic Root Stimulator's Nature's Shine (Coconut Oil).

Do you have any suggestions?
