Loc Product Junky?

Is this the picture under your sink? On top of your sink?

Let's talk about loc products. This is one section I covered two years ago, when I first started On the Road to Queendom. Let me just tell you that products are like a lot of other things, it has to fit you. What might work for a friend, might not work for you and you have to be alright with that. In other words you need to try a few if any at all until you find what fits.

With locs, you can use products or choose not too. The misconception of traditional locs is that we "have" to use products. This may be partly true if you want the look of salon locks...but a free former or latcher may not use anything at all. However, after years of locing, and locing others hair, I saw that you might use different products at very different stages.

Ask Writing Addict

Hi Toshia,
Question please, I have sisterlocks and am concerned about the stress of the re tightening process on my roots as I age (I am 50). I have always LOVED traditional locks but as a compromise with my husband undid my teenage tl's and had sisterlocks installed. I HATE THEM!!!! I would like to combine them into tl's and maintain them by twisting myself. Another drawback of sisterlocks is the associated cost!! $100 or more for 4-6week re tightening sessions vs. retwisting for FREE myself. In your spare time could you please give me some feedback on this. Thank you sooo much. Much Love, Prosperity and SUCCESS to you.

Your biggest fan,
Melinda

Here We Go Again...

**UPDATED**

This is Jawn Murray's official apology to the those offended *insert side eye here* Apparently it wasn't his intent, as it was "just a joke gone wrong." Again, why are we always the joke? You can call it what you want, say I'm sensitive, or whatever. Just know that I am far from angry, I'm tired. Tired of disrespect. I will not allow it, period.

A Note From Writing Addict

Hey Queens!

So you know I am always on the run, always busy! So here's the scoop on me:

If you've read my bio, you already know I am on the Executive Board of the Nevada Youth Alliance. A mentoring non-profit for the youth in Las Vegas, which deals with gang prevention, and helping to make the neighborhood safe. So I went to an event on last Saturday we had which was called Imagination Celebration. This private event was a fundraiser where we had a silent art auction, dinner from Tommy Bahamas, and a live Jazz Band. It was truly a great one!  Here I am with an original showgirl, um after I saw this picture honey the next day I went to the gym...smh.

Oh Kohl's....Epic Fail!

**UPDATED Yet Again**

Kohl's took the whole thing down! Good going everyone, we did it! We are showing people that we are no longer going to take disrespect. Stand up for what you believe in, its the only way!
--------------------------------------
Twitter is all abuzz about this fuckery Kohl's is displaying, so much that Kohl's official twitter page has become flooded with irate women of color calling foul, and claiming racism (you know I was one of them!). Anyway, as of late, the item is unavailable. But the racist commentary which accompanies a scary new pic is still there on the site. We are not stopping until they take that shit down. I am so sick of this mess....I will fight it every time I am faced with it! Check out the new page.

Ask Writing Addict

 Hello Queendom,
I'm contacting you because I really need some support about my locks that thinned out because of over twisting. I shaved the sides off and left the top of my hair to cover the excessive thinning. I don't think the hair will grow back and I need to know if you know of any support groups that I can go to on the internet. I'm so depressed about it.

Essence 1st Hot Hair Issue

What year is this again? Hmph, I thought so....Essence finally giving us a hair issue? Let me be quiet and just thank the hair gods that they finally did it *side eye.* Anyway everybody's favorite magazine (I'm trying people) sent out a press release in reference to their new venture. It reads:

FDA Receives Complaints about Brazilian Blowouts

Exactly what is a Brazilian blowout? I have been looking at this for a while now, and to tell you truth I feel as if I can never get a straight answer. The Brazilian blowout is what women go to to get so called, salon looking hair on the daily. It is very expensive and black women have been getting this treatment lately. However, here is what I dug up:

Shampoo Bar Review!

Hey Queens,

Do you remember my post on member Laquita's shampoo bars? Click here if you can't recall. Well I finally had the chance to try one of her bars out! I am a product junkie! Trust me I overuse everything (I'm working on it! LOL). With this being said, I remember her saying a little can go a long way, but I am still unsure if she means with mature loc rockers who sport over 18 inches of hair. Remember Queens I have over 23" of hair! So lawd I was using the bar, and it soaked up that po' lil bar so quick! LOL

It smelled really good, felt great on my scalp, and it does clean thoroughly. I can see this bar doing and working wonders on natural haired loose Queens, baby to teen loc'd Queens as well. Now for Mature locs we might need a bigger bar. Especially since we have to wash the length of our locs. Lawd our locs trap in all kinds of smells that need to be eliminated. So for me, I will wait for bigger, thicker bar (hint hint). This is worth the purchase and I give it 4 1/2 out of 5 crowns!

Stay Blessed & Happy Locing!
